Yesterday was the funeral service and let me just tell you it was nothing like i had ever experienced before. If you have never been to a police, ems, or military funeral then let me just tell you it is an experience that is very moving. ambulance and dispatch services from other counties some in to cover calls so that everyone is able to go to the services, other counties also send ambulances to be in the processional. The funeral itself was extremely moving and I was in tears the whole time. Three different preachers spoke. One of them is a paramedic in the county and grew up with Jake so his was especially heart wrenching.
After the service come the processional which is something amazing in itself. There were at least 20 ambulances and police vehicles in the processional with lights going and then all the cars of the guests. The funeral was in the next town over so there local police stopped traffic for us and almost every officer whom we passed was either saluting or had his hand on his heart, truly amazing. We arrived at the cemetery and they had bagpipes, at the end of the service they did last call across the radio, if anyone doesn't know what that is its where they say the persons number over the radio 3 times with no answer and then they retire the number and drop all the tones. This is the most heart wrenching thing ever. There was not a dry eye in the place. Then lifestar flew overhead which is the local air ambulance service.
I want to just say how amazing everyone in my county is, and how much i greatly appreciate everyone in the emergency field of service. Also REST IN PEACE JAKE PURKEY~ GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!!!
